Kerry Speech

MSNBC
BOSTON - Pledging to "restore trust and credibility to the White House," Sen. John Kerry accepted the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday night by promising to defeat terrorism but to "never mislead us into war."

As he bounded up on the podium, Kerry, 60, the junior senator from Massachusetts, saluted sharply and said, "I'm John Kerry, and I'm reporting for duty!" He then challenged President Bush on the war in Iraq and told Democratic delegates and a national audience that he would "bring back this nation's time-honored tradition: The United States of America never goes to war because we want to; we only go to war because we have to."

Really?
How about the Spanish-American War, Mexican-American War, World War 1, Korea, Vietnam?

The best part, I thought, was after the speech, when the balloons were
supposed to drop. Watching CNN, they were broadcasting audio, apperently from the director of events.

"Go balloons. Go balloons. ... I don't see any balloons....I want some
goddamn balloons..... Where the f**k are the balloons?...."

Poker Tracker

I've had PT for a while, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get the most use from it.  Other than the player notes, it doesn't seem too useful for analysing others play.  As many others have stated, PT is good for finding holes in your game.  OK, still worth it.

So, how do I find holes? What should I be looking for?

I have just over a 1000 ring hands, and maybe 15 SnG's loaded.

Multi tables

Tried playing 2 tables at once last night on Empire.

1 table played fast, fairly tight, usually 3-4 to see the flop. The other table had 4-8 seeing the flop. 1st table up $16.50, as some big hands really paid off. 2nd table down $23.00

Two tables forced me to make quick decisions, and pretty much just play the cards. I folded alot more. I missed making a few raises when I had the best hand, but generally was very aggressive when I had a hand.

The excitement factor was way up compared to a single table.

Now if I could only swap hole cards between tables....

Rivered again

So, another beat post.  Flopped a boat, only to get beat on the river.

Free No Limit Holdem at Old Chicago

Free No Limit Holdem at Old Chicago

Good thing this was free.

7 players, each with T10,000. Blinds start at 500/1000, with 1000 minimum bet. Blinds scheduled to double every 15 minutes, or when anyone is knocked out. Yikes.

Tables/seats randonmly assigned by drawing cards. I get table 2, seat 2. Button starts at seat one, so I'm in the SB to start.

4 players call, I gets rags, fold. Flop 2,Q, x. BB Check, UTG check, LP raise 2000, buttons raise 1000, fold, fold, LP all in, Buton calls.
(Wow this is goona be fast).
Button has pocket 2's
LP shows Q7o, for a pair of queens
Turn is a blank, no help, no straights or flushes possible.
River is Queen.

Button gets up, thinking he lost. Entire table and gallery are thinking the trip Q's won. Dealer is stacking the chips up for the Queens, when the dealer realizes his mistake, has someone get the the real winner just as he's leaving the bar for the parking lot. trip 2's plus a pair of queens is a full house. 20 people missed that for over a minute.

Man, this live play is wild. Can't even trust the dealer. I better start paying attention.

Take a drink of guinness ( what else ?), and try and settel down.

on the button......ahhhh the Paris and Nicki... this should be good.

couple of limpers, I check.
both blinds fold. ??? BB folded? whatever....
ragged flop
limper 1 checks, limper 2 raises 3000 to me.

hmmmm Q's are better than anything on the board, unless he flopped a low set. Re-raise to 5000, lets see if he's serious. Both fold. Nice..... time to play tight, and steal when I can.

As7s

Well this might be good as well.

2 calls, 1 call, button folds, SB folds, BB checks.
Flop A 9 5 rainbow.
checks around to me, I bet 3000, everyone folds.
it can't be this easy, can it?

Fold a few hands, called a couple limps for missed flops. #2 at the table, with the big stack to my right.

So, the chip count is about
Me 14000
3000
8000
14000
9000
22000

Kc7c
SB is all in with the blind.

3 of us stay in

flop is two small clubs and Jh
hmmm flush draw....
I'm in first, so I raise 5000, trying to steal, and get some chips in.
1 fold and, with a disgusted look, re-raise all in.

This guy has bet big and lost some showdowns, but just won a big pot, all with draws. His all-in forces me all in to call, which is how i know he has the same stack as me.

I call.

He turns over Jc 4c, so a pair of jacks and a flush draw.

hmmmm 7 clubs plus 3 kings.... 10 outs...
turn is nothing
river is another jack..... and I'm done.

I've been pimped!!

Iggy says: "This isn't a pure poker blog but I'm hoping by pimping him here, we might get one. Hell, it's worked before."

Well it's certainly easier to post about my crappy play than actually write excellent posts.

River [9d]

Hilton sisters hold up. Best pocket pair I had all night.

I used the big stack to smack around the SB, by raising the pot. Both of
them were playing only premium hands, betting the listed amount, just like
it was a ring game. Any variation was cathing a hand if late, or a bluff if
early. I had to remeber to fold every now and then when 3 handed, as a pot
raise would usually buy the pot.

Fair and Balanced

from lgf

Federal judge Robert Sweet (an 82-year old Jimmy Carter appointee with a long history of controversial rulings) has decided that New York cops will not be allowed to search bags and backpacks at the Republican National Convention—unless they have specific information that an attack is about to happen: Cops rip judge: ‘It’s giving an open door to terrorists’. (Hat tip: Right Wing Conspirator.)

Sweet’s decision also limits how many streets the NYPD can close around Madison Square Garden, and prohibits cops from penning protesters behind metal barricades.

And on the opposing side....

MORE CRUSHING OF DISSENT:

Cement barriers, 8-foot-tall chain-link fencing, and heavy black netting have been installed around the protest zone outside the FleetCenter, angering protesters who say they will be penned in and closed off from Democratic National Convention delegates.

Much of the area is located under abandoned elevated Green Line tracks that slope downward. The setup, which one netting installer called ''an internment camp," will force tall protesters at the southern end of the zone to lower their heads to avoid banging them on green metal girders.

So, as a protester at the Republican convention, I can wear a backpack and carry whatever I want inside, while if I were to protest the Democrat's convention, I'd be put into an internment camp...

seems fair to me.

Halliburton: Weapon of mass construction

t r u t h o u t - Halliburton is Principal Beneficiary of Iraq Reconstruction:
March 8, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR), a Halliburton subsidiary a contract for $ 71.3 million (61 million Euros) to put Iraqi oil installations back in working order.

The decision provoked a hue and cry. Not only were the precise details of the contract not publicized, but, because of "urgency and the need to respect military secrecy" the Pentagon's procedure was discretionary, without bidding or competition.

The Bush administration was accused then, notably by Democratic members of Congress, of "favoritism" toward a company whose CEO from October 1995 to 2000 had been Dick Cheney, today Vice President of the United States.

......

"KBR was in competition with two other companies for a decade to become the American army's exclusive supplier all over the world. 'Contracts of the United States government are not bestowed by politicians, but by bureaucrats as a function of precise and objective criteria', explains Wendy Hall, Halliburton spokesperson. 'To privatize this sort of logistical services allows the military to concentrate on their mission. Any allegation that this contract exists to facilitate uncontrolled expenses is false and without foundation. The Vice President has nothing to do with Halliburton obtaining this transaction.'
KBR got a similar contract between 1992 and 1999 to assure American troop support in the Balkans. It brought it $1.2 billion and was extended up to 2004. Overall, it was worth $1.8 billion."

So, the millions spent on KBR in Iraq is an outrage, but the billion dollars in Bosnia is just fine?

More liberal media

Via Instapundit: "OH, THAT LIBERAL MEDIA: An extensive survey of reporters' political donations produces some interesting data, and this overall observation: 'President George Bush didn't receive a single donation from any outlet or reporter in my search.' (Via Mickey Kaus, who adds: 'Yoo hoo, Poynter people. Over here.') I guess this is more support for Evan Thomas's admission."

Really? Who would a thunk it? The media didn't donate to Kerry. Well, we know the survey didn't contact Rush, but he's not 'mainstream' anyway, right?

Terror in the Skies, Again? - WomensWallStreet: "On June 29, 2004, at 12:28 p.m., I flew on Northwest Airlines flight #327 from Detroit to Los Angeles with my husband and our young son. Also on our flight were 14 Middle Eastern men between the ages of approximately 20 and 50 years old. What I experienced during that flight has caused me to question whether the United States of America can realistically uphold the civil liberties of every individual, even non-citizens, and protect its citizens from terrorist threats. "

So just how safe ARE we when flying? Could these guys have finished making a device, while the air marshals just watched?

Mag Editor: Media "Want Kerry to Win," Cover: "Sunshine Boys" --7/12/2004-- Media Research Center: " On Inside Washington, a weekend discussion show taped at and run by the Gannett-owned CBS affiliate in Washington, DC, WUSA-TV, and carried by many PBS stations across the country, Thomas pointed out the boost to the Kerry/Edwards ticket provided by the press corps:
"There's one other base here: the media. Let's talk a little media bias here. The media, I think, wants Kerry to win. And I think they're going to portray Kerry and Edwards -- I'm talking about the establishment media, not Fox, but -- they're going to portray Kerry and Edwards as being young and dynamic and optimistic and all, there?s going to be this glow about them that some, is going to be worth, collectively, the two of them, that's going to be worth maybe 15 points. "

So, liberal media, or fair and accurate reporting?

Hilton Sisters go down

Wonder how many google searchs this will hit?
If I could get the Hand Converter to work, I would. Probably a network issue on my end. Hopefully I can edit this later withthe conversion.

Anyway, my first hand history post. 3 hands from a $5 SnG on Empire/Party

I’ve read that SnG’s can be won or lost on just a few hands. I’ve found this to be true, especially the losing part, where I get trapped.

This time, I actually get my Pocket Rockets to pay off, and then suckout 2 pair to send the best player(tight, aggressive) to the rail.

Player Notes:
HeadsUp- ends up in 2nd overall. Loose, aggressive. Early chip lead.

Mini-Maniac-is just aggressive. Made good early hands payoff, and has been using chips to buy pots. Can fold if you bet back big.

Shark-tight, only played 3 or 4 hands, makes big bets to steal, won the 1 hand that went to showdown. She’s scary.

Results of previous hand. HeadsUp flops trip 6’s. davecad flopped a pair of 5’s, K kicker. Mini-Maniac folded after flop, after a 200 PF raise.

Here we go. Hilton Sisters go down. But we already knew that.

Party Poker Guide - Poker Table Selection

Party Poker Guide - Poker Table Selection:
So, what should you look for in table selection? From my experience, I find that tables in the range of 8-10 times the BB (big bet) are usually the most ideal tables. So in a 3/6 game, you want the average pot to be 48-60. In these games, you will usually find a good variety of players that actually improve your game if you are playing at a skilled level.

Finally, some table selection pointers for Empire/Party. I should be looking for 8-10 pots, but those are the high end. I still wish I could see the percentage seeing the flop. May have to try Pacific Poker some more.

Taking Player Notes on Party Poker

Taking Player Notes on Party Poker

Wow! Good stuff here on notes. I need to start doing this. I know it's a feature of PT, but I don't use it enough.

SnG thoughts

Maybe I'm better at NL instead of ring games. It is definently more fun.

11 5+1 SNG on Party, 3 first, 2 seconds. Net +14
1 10+1 SnG on party, first. Net +39
3 5+1 SnG on party, 1 second. Net -3

This is an admittedly small sample, but I'm up $50.

Just looking at the 0.50/1 ring game, I'm down about $50 over 900 hands.

As so many others have said in their blogs,
Iggy,
hDouble,
Grubby,,
be patient, wait for the table to thin itself out.

I still would like some info/guidelines on using PokerTracker to my advantage.
